Today's post is not an experience as the title suggests, but it is really a great gesture on path of devotion to Lord Sai Baba. Let's play our small part and contribute to this great idea. Read on you will come to know what this anonymous devotee wishes to say.
Anonymous Devotee from India says: Jai Sai Ram Hetal Didi, I request you to keep my post anonymous. I am grateful to you for this kind work and beautiful forum. Your blog has been tremendous source of strength and devotion. Today I intend to use this very powerful platform to make a small request. I will be grateful if you can publish it. What you read today you may like, you may not like. You can choose to follow it. You can choose not to. It is entirely your decision. But I would request all to just give 5 minutes and read it. I won’t preach. I will just make an appeal. That’s it. Today I ask just for your 5 minutes and after that you decide.

We have read multiple experiences of how Baba has loved animals and encouraged everyone to do the same. We remember how He encouraged Mrs. Tarkhad, when she fed the hungry dog saying, "Eating that lovely bread I am heartily contended and I am still belching. The dog, which you saw before meals and to which you gave the piece of bread is, one with Me, so also other creatures (cats, pigs, flies, cows etc.) are one with Me. I am roaming in their forms. He, who sees Me in all these creatures, is My beloved. So abandon the sense of duality and distinction, and serve Me, as you did today." Today I appeal to you regarding the same. The condition of street dogs in India is deplorable. They die of hunger and disease.

  • Don’t worry I WONT ask you to be a hero and do something revolutionary. I WONT ask you to do any protest or sign any petitions. Don’t do anything extra ordinary. Just a small request. Whatever roti/bread/white bread/left-over food you have in your house, please do a kind deed and leave it outside or feed a dog in sight. Even if you feed just one dog, you make a change.
  • If you have nothing else, just 2 pieces of white bread in 4 spoons on milk is sufficient.
  • Parle-g biscuits are also a good option.
  • You don’t have to cook extra or bear additional expenditure. Rather than throwing leftover food please feed a hungry soul.
  • It’s not a big task, but it will go a long way in saving emaciated lives and earning you merit.
  • Don’t just feed dogs, when you go to Shirdi or a temple. Sai does not live only in temples, but in souls of these creatures. Make it a habit, a part of your system, and truly embrace the Sai’s way of living.
Even government is facilitating this process by giving identity cards as Colony caretakers to those who take up this noble task. Anyone can get it and feed animals as a matter of right. It can be obtained by sending your information to animal welfare board of India. Here is the link.

This is my main appeal today. Feed the street dogs. Their population is not regulated and innumerable dogs die of despondent conditions getting no food, shelter or medical aid. If you spot someone throwing stones at them, intervene immediately. Call the police, it is against Prevention of Cruelty to Animals act. If you see an animal in distress, provide medical aid. Be good citizens, good human beings, and true Sai devotees.

Other additional things you can do to make a change/dent in society and doing Sai’s work.
  • When you go to a restaurant etc, please ask the waiters to pack the leftover food even if it is just two spoons full and give it outside to homeless person, who would probably never get to cherish those dishes. Don’t hesitate to ask them to pack. It is your right, as you are paying for it. Include more people in your celebrations/dinners and spread the happiness.
  • Try and leave a small bowl of water outside for the birds. In extreme heat when you are inside, comfortably gulping down cola with ice, birds die of extreme thirst.
  • If possible leave some food for birds. They remarkably cherish jwar and kanak. It comes cheap and feeds many.
You might not be able to change the world or revolutionize the system, but you can definitely make it a tad better place to live in. Maybe just a slight bit. But it still something. It’s a start.

Almost everybody has two pieces of bread and 2 spoons of milk at home to spare to a dog. Yet I repeat this is just an appeal, a request, a suggestion. You are NOT bound to do any of these if you don’t want to or you CAN’T for some reason. There is no compulsion. But please give it a thought and if you do get the opportunity, try and do them, if not for anyone else but just yourself. If you can’t do everything, do just one thing. If you can’t do even one thing, spread the message. Spread the kindness.

Sai Ram. Om Sai Shree Sai Jai Jai Sai.

    1. Hello Sai Devotees, This is a nice suggestion. I have been enjoying birds coming to my balcony as I have kept the bird feeder hanging on the rails of my balcony. I have noticed they enjoy crushed crackers, Mamaraa, potato chips and even small pieces of chapati.
It is a very humble feeling we feel being ONE with SAI BABA!

Its really a very good suggestion dear devotee. i am living in Saudi in a flat. i buy a packet of puffed rice and keep a handful of it out side my window daily in the morning. many sparrows are coming and eating. i also kept a bowl of water for them and they fought and pushed it down causing problem to people living below my flat. it happened thrice and i stopped keeping water. even though i want to keep water i don't have any idea to do that. i am also telling my children to do the same. initially no birds were coming but i prayed to Baba what can ido in a place like this please help me. now if i am late to wake up on weekends the birds are making sound and calling me. every day i thank Baba for giving my this wonderful opportunity to feed the birds

Thank you soo much Babaji for everything.

  14. what a good suggestion? yes animals and birds should be taken care off..what ever we are having left overs we can keep a bowel and keep for the animals.. i used to feed the cat which used to wander in my garden...mostly i used to feed the cow with food and rotis..in many marriages and parties so much luxurious food is being wasted by throwing the left over food to the dust bin..even this has come as a news in HINDU SIX MONTHS BACK..IN INDIA FROM NORTH TO SOUTH THE MARRIAGES ARE CELEBRATED WITH POMP AND SHOW ,WITH ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF FOOD IS BEING WASTED IN SO MANY WAYS.../WHY ? WHY CANT THE PEOPLE MAJE IT A HABIT TO FEED THE POOR DURING GRAND FUNCTIONS AND MARRIAGES...LET THE POOR PEOPLE RELISH THE LUXURIOUS FOOD...LET THE BIRDS AND ANIMALS EAT THE TASTY FOOD ....PLEASE START FEEDING THE POOR..BE COMPASSIONATE TO BIRDS AND ANIMALS..LET US REVOLUTIONISE THE SOCIETY..OMSAIRAM--UMAMAHESWARI

Valuable post and yes we agree and we were doing to some extent. But with this post it extended to my mind to contribute animals more with better ideas as a citizen from time to time and with human responsibility and finally with true devotion towards Shri Sai Datta Seva...

Love all Serve All... Please find that in any of our life cycle we may some time become as an Animal and we may also required this care and definitely we hope we care each and every animal at all possible extent.

I will definitely follow the suggestions of this wonderful post and hope i may contribute atleast a little extent.

    Thanks a Lot..

if the bird feed or the water bowl falls down cuz the birds are fighting, keep some weight in them, may be a stone, so that the bowl will not fall down.
This is a practical suggestion. As the bird feed which i used to keep the feed used to fall down cuz the birds used to fight, now i keep a stone in that and it helps to balance the bowl, no more falling down.

After reading one of the comments I remembered I should have mentioned the foods to avoid to the animals

    1. Please DON'T feed BAJRA to sparrows as it causes miscarriage for them.

    2. Also DONT feed following to dogs

    • Xylitol
Xylitol is an artificial sweetener found in products such as gum, candy, mints, toothpaste, and mouthwash. Xylitol is harmful to dogs because it causes a sudden release of insulin in the body that leads to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Xylitol can also cause liver damage in dogs.

    • Chocolate, Coffee, and Caffeine
Chocolate contains theobromine, a chemical that is toxic to dogs in large enough quantities. Chocolate also contains caffeine, which is found in coffee, tea, and certain soft drinks. . Death can occur within 24 hours of ingestion.

    • Grapes and Raisins
Grapes and raisins can cause acute (sudden) kidney failure in cats and dogs. It is unknown what the toxic agent is in these fruits.

    • Avocados
The avocado tree leaves, pits, fruit, and plant bark are likely all toxic. Clinical signs in dogs and cats include vomiting and diarrhea.

    • Garlic and Onions
Garlic and onions contain chemicals that damage red blood cells in cats and dogs. Affected red blood cells can rupture or lose their ability to carry oxygen effectively.

    • Macadamia Nuts
Macadamia nuts are common in candies and chocolates. The mechanism of macadamia nut toxicity is not well understood, but clinical signs in dogs include depression, weakness, vomiting, tremors, joint pain, and pale gums.

  31. i m glad that so many people are here who believe that the nature n its gift for all human n animals too, there are some persons think that they r human so they have powers to rule d animals which is very wrong,i will quote few things here about dogs,i m sorry that i m writting in comment section-
recently one old lady passed away in my neighbour who used to feed a dog daily ,as other person in family used to be in office n kids in colleges so this old lady was best comanion to that dog,now after she passed away from many days that dog is crying continuously n left food n all n sitting in front of their door, not only this but that dog sitting at their door n looking the photo (kept there for rituals) n crying,so who will that that they r like us ,luv has no anguage.we all are sad with the pain of dog.

2.another thing i saw whenever in our home (smtimes) or near by if puppies are born the female dog becomes so weak n nobody cares to feed them,to give them some space,n when we are doing that, other person in colony making objection as they are only our dog n making their place dirty. Its really sad that we can not change the mentality of such people,on one side one uncle n aunti doing pooja-path n all other side what he did a female dog n 4 puppies he put in one bag n left them on other place as he said the covered campus will become dirty n what blonder he did he took puppies one day n 2 nd day he took the female dog,n u know what happened whole day she was searching her puppies n next day on the same place she was left but puppies was not there, now see how much curse that female dog will give ,people are really insensitive, later on we came to know all this n we cudnt stop d tears,so my request to all plz take care of the puppies too while driving as the are dying in road accident too.

  32. Very nice post! It is true that Baba always tells us that we should feed the animals because it is as we are feeding Him. Also, in addition, we should always try to give some extra food to our fellow human beings (they are after all our brothers and sisters). I liked your point about how some homeless people will not get to taste restaurant foods without you bringing some to them. Also, rather than saying I should eat everything and not throw anything in the waste bin, if there is some food left over that you cannot eat or give to someone else, don't think you are wasting the food, some bugs and other animals depend on food waste to feed themselves and their families (some bugs eat and digest banana peels, milk that has gone sour); they are also another form of Baba. Om Sai Ram!
